Welcome to the Patients Rising Community Code of Conduct. This is an evolving document intended to clearly outline the expectations of our members, as well as what to do if there’s a problem.

Our Pledge

We commit to making our community a safe, positive experience for everyone, regardless of age (all members must be 18+), appearance, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education or socio-economic status.

We are a diverse bunch. We come from many different backgrounds, and have had different experiences, but are aligned in our commitment to support each other.

We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community.

Who We Are

We are an online community dedicated to patient support, education, and advocacy. Our platform offers a safe, private space for patients and caregivers to:

• Network and share insights
• Access resources to help navigate the complex healthcare system
• Learn to be effective self-advocates
• Engage in grassroots advocacy for policy change and reform

Our mission is to empower patients through:

1. Patient Education: Access expertly curated information via:
   • Self-directed video courses
   • Interactive online community
   • Comprehensive patient learning center
   • Resource hub with articles, ebooks, infographics, videos, and audio
2. Patient Support: Guide individuals through healthcare challenges, including:
   • Common insurance obstacles
   • Access to treatments and providers
   • Caregiving support
3. Patient Advocacy: our programs enable members to:
   • Learn how to create and share their stories to different audiences
   • Participate in advocacy training
   • Take action at community, state, and federal levels
   • Support reforms for improved patient access to affordable, quality healthcare

This Is A Safe Space

We encourage discussion of sensitive and difficult topics so that we can support each other, help each other find solutions, and problem-solve together. Due to the sensitive nature of many of these discussions, please keep what is said in these spaces - whether online or in person - confidential unless you receive permission otherwise. Be especially alert to avoid sharing identifying information, and remember that anything you do share is seen by hundreds of people. Always ask the original poster or speaker if they would feel comfortable having their post or experience shared. Discussing other members’ health conditions on threads they are not part of or have not asked for input on is not okay. Please remember to keep your tone neutral or encouraging. A member should never feel that they have to defend their own healthcare choices to other members.

In the spirit of transparency and valuing others, and because sensitive information is shared in this space, we require you use to use your name with your profile. Our space is made up of real people! There is a “Company” field where you may enter your organization, but your org name is not to be used in the “Full Name” field.
